help on tools for microcontrollers

Dear friends:

I need to compare performance of microcontrollers for a digital processing task at low frecuencies.

specifically I need to compare an 8051 atmel core with a motorola HC08 one. I have programmed the c routnes for this task.
Basically I need the machine cycles for the task in any of this microcontrollers.


My question is:

which tools do I need?

(compiler +IDE+simulator)

for example I make it with pic with

(hi-tech+MPLAB)
