I have a 12vac dat when connected to a step transformer instead of increasing d voltage it reduce it to 2v.what can I do to increase it to 220VAC

Are youi sure that you have connected it up correctly? Does the 12 V AC stay at 12V when you connect it to your transformer? Any short in the windings will wreck the transformer action and lead to the transformer taking a lot of current from the 12V source.
