Help needed..Car Symbol/Message Display...

Hi, may anyone help me!!..I'm having a final year project which i plan to designed and built a car symbol/message display to be used in an automobile. Its purpose is to display various symbols/messages to the car driver traveling behind them. Maybe using 32*32 Matrix Display, displaying a total of 5messages/symbols.

My problem is i don't know how to start, what components to get & how to interface them. May anyone out there be so kind to lend me a kickstart(haha), it will be most appreaciated...
