i am designing a vehicle tracking system using gps which sends data back to the main server using SMS.. any suggetions on this?? should i go for a single module for both or seperate modules?? anybody knows how much does GM862-GPS cost for 1k no's

Hi, I am not sure of the cost of the Telit modules, however I have done successful designs previously using seperate modules. GPS - JP13 (Very good GPS Module!)
GSM - Telit.

Of course, you would need a seperate microcontroller to interface to these.

If you are looking for help in designing, please check my website... www.circatek.co.uk

Ther are also modules available that have a Python script processor built in. This allows you to build system without a microcontroller. see here:
