MODEM INSTALLATION

Hi.
I have mandrake linux 9.2, and I'd like to install my intel 536ep modem on it.
as indicated in the driver's readme file, there are 3 steps:
1)typing "make clean".
2)typing "make 536ep".
3)typing "make install".
I have no problem with the first 2 steps.but when I type make install it says:
"...
starting module and utilities.
error loading 536ep.
done."
I'm a beginner and dont know what the problem is.
I'd be so happy to have your ideas.
thanks.

Re: MODEM INSTALLATION

Hi fa1364,

not so much information in Your post ... though.

I would interpret that error during driver module loading.
That could mean that the driver is not correct for the device,
the device is absent or broken or there are some extra parameter
neccessary during module loading...

I'd recommend to use 'make -n install' to see what make is trying
to do and post the results here.

Luck, RoZ

Re: MODEM INSTALLATION

Hi.
thanks for your help.
this is the complete text after I type 'make install':
"bash 536ep-inst
running kernel 2.4.22-10mdk
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing 536ep module
installing 536ep core module
mandrake 536ep-boot script
starting module and utilities
error loading 536ep
done
"
and also when I type "make -n install"
"bash 536ep-inst" will be displayed.

Re: MODEM INSTALLATION

I understood my big mistake.
my modem is intel v92 ham, and that was a wrong driver.
I have downloaded the right one but,
now,I have a new problem.
every thing is ok.
but at the end it says :
"rm:cannot remove '/dev/ham':eek:peration not permitted",
although I have logged in as root.
and the security is standard.
what's wrong?
