Help me select a protocol for simple data transfer

Hi,
I need to select a protocol for simple data transfer. I’ve looked at Xmodem and Zmodem but would like to look at other types.
The requirements are:
• Simple
• Open Source / Free
• Light weight

You didnt specify many things :
physical layer
type of data transfer - bulk or byte based
symmetric or asymmetric nature
transmission link characteristics (delay, ber)
...

and those affect your choice ..
