Help me develop a GUI for calibration software using Visual Basic

hi guys i am new to VB coding
I need to develop a GUI for a calibration software which is supposed to send calibration factors to a device on serial interface
i know that i have to use MS comm control .

But i have a few doubts.

1)i have to implement the following logic As soon as user presses Enter command button ,software should calculate a factor according to user entered values.
how to i simulate this event
can someone give the code for it.

you must send some information to device by mscomm.output command and receive some information in on mscomm() sub or mscomm.input.
