The maximum output from a PIC is only 20mA then a transistor switching output will be only 200mA, not 2A.
Five or ten little transistors in parallel can have an output of 2A if their inputs total 200mA which is impossible from a PIC.
A power darlington transistor (it has two transistors, driver then output) can produce an output of 2A with a low input current but the output has a loss of about 2V.
A power logic-level Mosfet can be driven from a PIC and produce up to many Amps at the output with a very low voltage loss. Here in Canada I would buy an IRL540 for $1.62.
