help me charge 12v,7a lead acid battery.

Hi,
Im planning to make an inverter, I dont know exact values of voltage and current to supply for charging. I have a 12v,2a transformer, can i use it to charge? I also have 317 regulator. how much volts should i supply if i use this transformer?
