Help in designing an LED lamp.

I want to make a simple led lamp to light up living room. How do i design it to ensure that it can provide a similar brightness as two 40Watts pendaflour lamps? Do i need to increase current supply to LEDs in order to get higher brightness or i can just simply achieve that by getting higher brightness LEDs?

Pls help.

Additional info: Lamp to be runned by a 12VDC car battery which is charged by solar panel. Run time is around 8-9hours/day.
 

a good approximation for led brightness is to divide classic lamp watts by ten
so you need around 8 watts of leds
then, there are very different colors, and efficiencies for leds
but with "warm white" leds around 8w total should be ok for you.
also you need to know the surface of the room
for me I found good a 15w led lamp for a 25m2 room
 


Thanks for the reply. What about the LEDs arrangement? I plan to arrange them in parallel whereby each row of series leds in parallel with another row . Does that work?

Should i get higher current LEDs or simply get higher brightness LEDs to ensure bright lighting?
 

you can get one simple 10w led that should be enought, no need to arrange them in serial or parallel !
then what is the surface of your room ? do you want good light (for reading or working) or little light (only to see)
