what's up andy. i draw dc-dc. there are no books that give a cookbook dc-dc chip up to now. some really good ones for you may be abraham pressman's book, and erickson's book... (erickson is heavy on theory, bad if you don't have theory background but i hear he makes his notes available online which should be fine for comprehending all the theory)
BTW - what do you want to build? dc-dc makes a lot of money, true, but there is no room for BS. if you want to do charge pump, do charge pumps. if you want to do inductor-based, do inductor based. i find the two groups do not get along so it's probably good to decide what you are interested in now.
