Has Microchip reached #1 sales at 8 bit uC's?

Someone told me that recently, is it true? And, BTW, where can you get centralized sales figures for the major companies?
 

I was on some ST training a week or so ago.
Sales of 8/16/32bit micros were mentioned as follows.
1.Hitachi
2.Microchip
3.ST
I can't remember any more than that.

Ok, but that does not mean that PIC is the most pópular/used uC among all. Other lines of uC, like 8051 has more than 50 sources. You'd have to sum all to know how much 8051 variants are used

But is Hitachi produce 8-bit controller?
