The driver has GSM module (SIM300D), a socket on SIM card and antenna. The main element of the system is Atmega16. The device allows to remote reset and enable or disable computers (laptops) via text messages. It is possible to independently control the operation of 16 computers.
The whole consists of control system, implementing modules and Java application. MIDlet running on user's mobile phone sends a text message to the SIM card number in the driver. Message authentication is to verify whether the sender is in the phonebook on the SIM card. If the authentication is successful, basing on message's content, the driver determines the status of the implementing modules. The implementing modules are optocouplers soldered directly to the laptop power button. The driver after a computer(s) reset procedure or enable/disable, sends a text message with confirmation of the action to the sender.
The system is locked in the Z104 housing, which could be mounted in a DIN rail, although the construction of the device wasn't envisaged for this type of attachment. The device is powered from AC. The implementing system is powered with a second supply which aims to reduce the system vulnerability to interferences.
After minor modifications in the code of microcontroller program, the driver can control the work of other devices. Outputs rated at 150mA have a separate power circuit, so e.g. relays can be directly connected.
