geofencing algorithm

Hi,

I am developing an embedded automotive comptuter with gps device. I want to add some codes and algorithm that determines the position of the vehicle and also it gives some information to user about position that is whether it is in predefined zone or not.Very like Geofencing but I don't know these issues much.

An algorithm may be useful for me, or any book advice???
