Hi,

i want to generate 40 V DC and 350mA current from input ac (230v). how can i generate this? any direct ic available ?
 

use a suitable transformer first to bring voltage down then a rectifier network to get the dc voltage
maintain the power rating thereby the current op can be maintained

Do you think to make this transformeless ? This is possible, but not recommended (recommendations are always to do this with transformer).

Only one right way is to do this, and this is using transformer, and rectification bridge, just like Jefrrey describe.

in the attached circuit you find a simple PSU without stabilization and regualtion.



If you need a stabilized voltage you must add the following circuit.

We dont know what thread starter want, he didnt say nothing from starting first post.

He can do this with transformer and transformeless, we dont know what he want.

by some googling i got 1 good circuit.

1st i will convert ac to dc and then i will get appropriate voltage via dc to dc converter ic.
 

This mean that you want to use transformer or not ?

You can find many commercialised sealed DC-DC converters, or you can build your.

Do you making some amplifier ?

what i do is i bought dc adapter of 230v ac input and 12v, 2 amp dc output. i used LM2585 ic. this ic is adjustable dc to dc conveter. i design ic such as it gives perfect 40v dc and 350mA output with input of 230v ac.

you must have spent somewhere around Rs. 250 + time for this // Instead you could have purchased a more reliable AC-DC Driver (40V, 350mA) off the shelf for more or less the same cost.

Ok, solution, maybe better is to find direct DC/DC 40V.

I recently looks some Chinese AC/DC up to 800mA for low cost. If I find link again I will send.

How much approx ?

That small Chinese sealed converter and price was around 12-15USD, if I find link again I will post it.

thats not very cheap though. We sell it for less than $10 a piece here in India. (say 36V, 350mA or 36V, 700mA)
 
I dont know, maybe quality of products is in focus, maybe somewhere there is cheaper converter. Here just a "good day" from door is around 10eur... :smile:
 

the price is now a days a determining factor in the quality of the goods it sort of hampers once interest in delivering the best they can really put in
 

It may not be only the quality, but also the technology development and moreover the customer always want a product which is as small as possible with maximum features. Thus the transformer-less versions are getting popular in this area and also in the UPS industry off late.

By doing so, the PF increases from almost 0.7 (transformer based) to 0.9 (transformer-less) which is a big leap in this sector.
