This is a construction of reliable, cheap and simple remote control garage door drive.
What elements you need:
- 2x wipers motors
- 2x pulleys
- 2x hinges
- 2x 8mm extended bolts
- 4m cable (diameter of 3mm, 5mm or 6mm) with ferrules
- 2x limit switches
- 2x relays
- angles
- pins
- screws
- radio control
Those elements can easily be bought on an Internet auction. They are cheap and available what makes this project really good alternative for original garage door hinge.
Pictures of the construction:
Garage door moves 10s free-running or 7s at a faster speed. There are two motors applied because it is easier and cheaper to add such a motor than the pulley on a bearing. Additional advantages are the power reserve and the lack of cable slipping. The cable does not slip on the wheels because it is tense. One of the motors is pulled so the angles do not buckle. High tension of the cable is needed because if it was small, the door would jump over the element which pulls them. The device uses old transformer 30V. Motors are connected in series. Power consumption is from 3A to 5A.
The system runs after giving a pulse to start. That relay will work which is not opened by limit switch, so the door will always go in the opposite direction. Diodes provide a self-latching of the relay. In addition, there is a protection against simultaneous operation of relays. If the door stood in the middle and you gave the start signal, the faster relay would work – never both of them. Control is carried out by two buttons START and STOP or it can be made on a single button and then another one is for the gate.
