i need to generate a frequency of 8GHz with a reference of 30MHz,
the source has a phase noise spec of -135dBc/Hz@100Hz offset and i need the output phase noise to be better that -85dBc/Hz @100Hz offset,
i am proceeding now with a multiplier and mixer based up conversion method, kindly let me know if any other devices can be utilized for this operation.
GEnerally, for the best phase noise at 8 GHz, the reference signal is fed into a comb generator and a 8 GHz VCO is phase-locked to a selected harmonic. You should change your reference frequency to get its harmonic to fall exactly to 8.000 GHz. Otherwise, you can either run the VCO output frequency at 7980 MHz, or, 8010 MHz(harmonics of 30 MHz). The remaining solution is to build a synthesizer to generate 8000MHz from 30 MHz reference.
I need clarity on what phase noise of the LO signal (generated using a reference source of 30MHz) of 8180MHz is required to receive a signal of 9.8GHz at -123 dBm,
