High-Level, Full-Featured Programming and Debugging Solutions

December 27, 2004 - SofTec Microsystems is about to release two reference designs which will let the design community to take advantage of the well-known inDART debugging technology free of charge.

The new uDART "core" (the same used on SofTec Microsystems Starter Kits) will feature most of the inDART benefits--above all, it will provide a seamless bridge between the host PC's USB interface and the target system's BDM or MON08 interface.

Following an accompanying Application Note, users will be able to build their own programming/debugging hardware module and, with the provided USB driver and firmware, they will be able to plug it directly into the host PC and use it from within the Metrowerks CodeWarrior IDE.

The uDART Reference Designs will be based on the Freescale MC68HC908JB16 microcontroller, and will be provided with the following:

* Schematics;
* Binary of firmware with an easy-to-use flashing utility;
* USB driver + CodeWarrior interfacing DLL;
* Application Note detailing how to build the hardware module and interface it with CodeWarrior;
* Full documentation of the USB communication protocol between the host PC and the uDART module.

The uDART "USB to BDM" Reference Design will be published on SofTec Microsystems website during the first quarter of 2005 and will be available free of charge to all users. The uDART "USB to MON08" Reference Design will follow.
