Free Pspice Software for simulation of Bi-directional Converter topology

Hi all,

I am looking for Pspice software which can be use for simulation of Bi-directional power converter topology. Please do not suggest

Ltspice
MultiSim
Orcad
Simpowersystem
Plecs

I tried all above and some of above stop working on complex topology and some of them stop working on magnetic components and few did not simulate Bi-directional or reverse direction flow of circuit. I want to simulate complete circuit with both direction of flow of current.

So what makes you believe that PSpice is any better than
the rest? Or that this isn't a failure of modeling in the
magnetics? I've found neither ind/mind nor core/winding
models especially easy to get right, but pretty easy to
stumble into some unrealistic / unsolvable parameterizations
(like, you'd better not have two mind connections onto the
same ind, or they'd better not be more than k=0.7 each, or
stuff blows up).

And what little hope I hold for PSpice being any better,
is even less for a free version (always crippled, you get
to find out just how much). I'm sure the trial version is
what you meant.

Because obviously you wouldn't be asking for any sort
of copyright violation on this here 'board.

I presume such problem is much more related to components on library using not real model but ideal instead, and also related to simulation configuration.
 


@dick, Sure I am looking for Demo/ Evaluation version of the software. All above mentioned software are different versions of Pspices from different companies. Basically, I used Ltspice first and I found that it is belongs to Linear technology therefore most of the libarary is belongs to Linear Tech compoenents. Then I switched to MutliSim 10, I wanted to prove my concept and most of the time you have to prove your concept first before fabrication or to convenience your boss (specially if he is not from Power electronics background)... So I designed again in MultiSim but at one point of time it stop working and Then I divide my circuit into two portion and simulate each section at a time. it is not enough for proving my concept then I switched to Simpowersystem, I am first time using Matlab/ Simulink therefore, I am not used to it. therefore I am asking if any one knew about Pspice software from any company which can use for simulation of converter topology.

Yes, i am looking for any Pspice software having at least basic library with closer to real model, just of prove my concept
 

Convergence problems can occur even on "more reliable" tools whether simulation configuration parameters are not properly sized for application design or if component models do not represent real devices.

I recommend you choose one of these programs and give attention to more reliable models rather than changing the tool, particularly because the failling behavior at all of them enforces the thesis that the problem can concerns to the circuit/configuration. By the way, you can get on the web models from manufacturers and use in each one of these tools.

@andre thanks for reply. I can understand the convergence problem and sometime I tried to run simulation for very short time in order to get the Transient responses.

I am looking to include the simulation results in my thesis as well. therefore, I am looking forward for authentic tool which other researchers may use for validation of their concepts.
 

I like SIMetrix software, which you can download here

I use the free demo software that is not time limited and does 140 nodes. Can be used for commerical or non-commercial needs.

I find that I can simulate bi-directional current flow in battery charging circuit with inductors added in! LTSpice failed this. Also, I find SIMetrix convergences quicker than other SPICE related software.

What are you views on SIMetrix?

Yes, because of this reason I could not able to run full simulation in one run.

First time I heard about this software and I just downloaded and installed the demo version. I will redraw whole circuit in this software and then I can tell you about my views. Anyway many Thanks for sharing.
 

I don't think there's a clear advantage of one simulation software above the other in terms of easy convergence with difficult circuits respectively strongly nonlinear components. These problems can be mastered by tuning solver parameters.

SIMetrix is particularly interesting for switched mode circuits with it's SIMPLIS modes.

Thanks FvM for sharing your experience. The main advantage of simulation software or simulating circuit is to publish your results on reputable platform without investing your huge time in troubleshooting of hardware and finance.
