fpga selection

Hi all

I am in a project where I have to select an FPGA for the project. It may be Altera/Xilinx.

I am new to this process of selection .. Can anyone help me in giving some document citing the FPGA selection guidelines so that i will be able to do the right choice.

The project is on VME BUS interface chip on FPGA.

Help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Vipul

selection criteria for fpga

This could be not a bright idea but no harm in trying. Google to see who is using which fpga for doing work which is similar or close to your work.

OR

write to Xilinx and Altera support asking their suggestion in selecting an FPGA for your application.

Hope it helps.

I have worked VME design based on Altera Stratix ep1s30. It supports VME64 with 2eSST

criteria to select fpga

These are the general criteria for FPGA selection .

-- Capacity (Gatecount)
-- Power Consumption
(for handheld / low power projects
refer to www.actel.com)
-- IO's (User IO's)
-- IDE .. Free or Paid software ?
-- Cost of device
-- Flash or Antifuse Devices (ACTEL ONLY)
No PROM / Configuration mem needed )
or
SRAM Based Device (ALL other FPGA vendors)
--Package of the device (depends on IO requirment)
-- Form Factor
-- Speed grade of Device
-- Temperature Grade of Device
(Military / Industrial / Commercial Qualification)
-- Max Operating Frequency
-- Free IP Cores with silicon vendor
(this allows a faster development cycle)
