Fpga and asic controller

Hi friends,
Tell me the difference between FPGA and ASIC controller.

If it related the microcontroller function, a FPGA implementation is programmed into the FPGA(most are RAM or EEPROM/PROM based types). In an ASIC version the implementation is at the internal wiring level(requires costly mask sets to produce).

The function could be the same, but the performance can be different. At the same technology node the ASIC version is usually faster and has more option on the RAM, ROM and I/O configurations, while the FPGA version is fixed by the selected FPGA device). FPGA is a standard of the shelf component, while an ASIC is usually for one customer only.
