I know that Fourier transform returns frequency spectrum and it contains both Sine and Cosine as "imaginary and real" coefficient terms. But then we also have individual Sine and Cosine transforms.

1. How does one know when to use which?
2. What is the strength, weekenss & application of each?
3. Are there things that one can do better than another?
4. Are there things that one can do the another cannot?
