For a person breaking into ARM, what low end microcontroller would you recommend

There are a multitude of micro controllers based on the ARM core. Which one would you recommend to a person that wants to try out a basic ARM and also which software is use with this microcontroller to compile its code and program and debug it?
 

Yep, both LPC and STM are nice micros for starters (like me) if you still work in a breadboard, take a look on the LPC1114, this dude explains everything to make it work with ARM GCC and the lpc' bootloader...

if you plan to buy a development board, I can suggest you to buy one of the STM32 discovery... somehow they are very cheap... (but don't forget that there are many kind of disvoery boards... ones with USB and other without)

Hmmm... interesting.

Just to let you know. I am looking for a good product and money is not really tight as such. I am now going to study these.
