Hi , i have a project of " Fire Fighting Robot "

and i'm having a problem in the proximity sensor that i want to use many IR sensors instead of using ultasonic ( very expensive ) but the maze area will be affected by :
- The light level of the surrounding in the testing area
- The room will be lit by overhead high pressure sodium vapour lights.

so how can i overcome the effect of these things

Thanks in advance.

So you must use an IR filter passing only the light from your IR source. In addition you should modulate YOUR IR light (a chopper) and use a selective amplifier after the photodetector, to avoid unwanted response.
