Hi everyone,

I'm simulating an microstrip antenna (attachment), with microstrip line feed, in feko software.
First i simulated the antenna in a infinite substrate, but right now i'm trying to do it in a finite one.
Its a substrate with dielectric constant = 5; height = 1.6mm.

But i'm having problems with the ports, i dont know how to make it in a finite substrate. Can anyone help with that? i wiil really apreciate

Best regards,

I had the same problem last year when I was working on an antenna design. I think you cannot use a microstrip port on an finite substrate.
Take a look at the examples booklet. I think a good way to do it would be to have the strip joined to the ground plane and place a line port at the boundary between the strip and the ground. Try different configurations with a known antenna until you get the right result.

and if you have access to the feko website, they have a very good help center. every membership comes with an online account but I am not sure how this will work if you have a site licence.

Yes, there is a page in the Help Centre that describes your problem and how-to set the port.

You cannot use microstrip ports on a diel substrate, but use edge port perfectly inside or outside the substrate, create a rectangle outside that substrate and lengthen your microstrip a little bit, try 0.1 mm, then connect them two so as to create an edge, from that edge you can create an edge port.

Would you mind posting a picture or model? I'm having the same issue with FEKO 5.4, and don't have current maintenance and support and thus don't have a login .

Thank you!
