How does 3D gate of finfet reduce the leakage from source to drain?

Does it? Compared to what?

Process development always trades leakage against speed / drive and my few encounters with fin technologies says this remains true, with fast corner leaking like a sieve.

Two-sided channel control can, and is claimed to help leakage but that is not to say it won't be traded away for speed or drawn-L bragging rights
