Hello Everyone,

First of all, I am not sure if this thread has been created under the right section, if not, kindly guide me to the same.

I am interfacing HDMI Connectors with an Arm Cortex A series microprocessor for use in Industrial HMI Controller environment.

I would be using HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 data transfer rates.

I plan to use a HDMI companion chip such as the HDMI2C4-5F2 as a signal booster, ESD protection and level shifting of SCL, SDA, HPD, CEC & Enable pins. It also has a ESD diode for the VCC pin.

I would like to use some filters between the ESD diode and the microprocessor for better immunity from noisy industrial environment.

Circuit would typically be as :
Connector ----> ESD Diodes ----> Filters ----> Microprocessor HDMI pins.
(ESD Diodes and Filters shall be typically placed close to the connectors).

For the TDMS pairs, I would use 2 nos. of ECM4-2450A17M10 which has a ESD and common mode filter integrated in it.

However, I wish to know, what kind of filters are required for SCL, SDA, HPD, Enable and VCC pins.

Can you please recommend me some part numbers for the same.

Regards,

Gaurav

HDMI2C4-5F2 is already repeating the control signals. I don't see a purpose for filters towards uC, presumed all components are sitting on a continuous ground plane.

What if I use a filter such as NUF6401MN between the connector and the HDMI2C4-5F2 for the SDA, SCL, CEC, HPD and VCC pins.
As such if we refer to the datasheet of HDMI2C4-5F2, we find that only SDA, SCL & HPD are having level shifting and ESD diodes, whereas CEC & VCC are having only ESD diodes.
I was thinking that by using filter similar to NUF6401MN / TPD6F002, we can have some kind of filter ( a PI filter ) for better noise immunity.

And as such since, the IC has 6 filters, I was thinking of using it for all the remaining ( SCL, SDA, CEC, HPD, VCC ) pins as well.

Regards,
Gaurav

Hi,

VCC should be bypassed with large enough and fast enough capacitors ... thus I see no need for extra ESD protection.
