filter insertion loss and cavity face smooth

Current flows in the metal surfaces. If the surface has undulations on it, the current travels over a longer distance at a given skin depth. This causes more (I^2)R loss. Also the cracks in the surface cause problems. Some platings that you would think of as low resistance have cracks and so have higher resistance.
