filter degree

Hi
what quality factor i need to design a BPF with Δf bandwidth and IR dB insertion loss
is there any equation explain the relationship between these parameters and the degree of the filter as well
Cheers

insertion loss quality factor

The answer is not that simple. All these items are related and have to be looked at together. There are many degrees of freedom. One way to do this is with filter tables from a book by Williams or Zverev. Or better yet, use filter software where you can see the results right away.

insertion loss bandwidth

I agree that Zverev, and the Matthei & Young also are the most importants books.
But practically, let's navigate into the sites of the main filters factories, K&L, Reactel, RLC, Lorch, you'll find free softwares born to choose their filtres.
With that programs you may simulate the frequency response vs BW, Number of sections etc.
I use an old fashioned, DOS software, made by RLC.

thanks for your replay
but where can you tell me where can i download these books?
I mean Williams or Zverev
Thanks

insertion loss and q factor

Hello :

you can use (Filter Disign Toolbox) or fdt in MATLAB software . in there you can understand more visualy the relationships and the affect of each parameter . also you can search in MATLAB index from MATLAB help menu and see the codes of the fdt .

regards.

Can someone add further references for the books?
