Feature extraction for fingerprint recognition

Hi,

Im a 4th year electronic engineering student and for my honurs year project Im looking to undertake feature extraction for fingerprint recognition with DSP.

I was simply looking for your thoughts on this topic about the best way to undertake such a project. Any help or advice is much appreciated, I should also mention that I will be using MatLab to implement this.
