Hi,

Can anyone please explain how an antenna converts electrical signals to EM waves?all the circuits i have seen till today have one end attached to the circuit and the other end left out.i used to think that the antenna was more like a winding of a transformer,i.e the changes in voltages give rise to changes in magnetic field which is transmitted in space as EMW.but as one end is open no current can exist.so how does the antenna work?

Hi,

I think the introduction of Balanis' book explains this concept very well.
