Wild card mask can be use for limitation of ip address range.Its look like subnet mask but they are very different usage.The best way to understand wild card mask is thinking it '1' & '0'.For ex.: In defining access lists , IP:10.5.5.0 and Wild card is 0.0.0.255 and you permit this network, than when you use this WM it means you allow the host between 10.5.5.0-10.5.5.255 , if you set WM 0.0.255.255 for this network, it means you allow hosts between 10.5.0.0-10.5.255.255.
Finally , you can remember that when you assign a WM it will be checked only the '1's
IP :00001010.00000101.00000101.00000000
WM:00000000.00000000.11111111.11111111
255*255 hosts included
If you assign a WM like this;
WM:00000000.00000000.00000000.11111111
IP :00001010.00000101.00000101.00000000
255 hosts included.
