pc104?

hello

Please someone explain this in few lines and its applications.

PC104

PC104 gets its name from the popular desktop personal computers initially designed by IBM called the PC, and from the number of pins used to connect the cards together (104). PC104 cards are much smaller than ISA-bus cards found in PC's and stack together which eliminates the need for a motherboard, backplane, and/or card cage. Power requirements and signal drive are reduced to meet the needs of an embedded system. Because PC104 is essentially a PC with a different form factor, most of the program development tools used for PC's can be used for a PC104 system. This reduces the cost of purchasing new tools and also greatly reduces the learning curve for programmers and hardware designers.

Can we run windows 2000 or xp professional on it?

Can we run the windows xp ,2000 softwares on it?(softwares that are not related to PCI bus)

PC104 is usualy used for embedded system, so DOS or linux is the os to run.

Is there versions that we can run win2000 on it?
What version of linux can be runned on it?
Is there any other RTOS and c/c++ compilers that we can run on it?

PC104+

Yes, if you want to comply with the PC104+ standard your board must have the ISA and the PCI connectors.
It is for compatibility with legacy PC104 modules.

You can read the standard at:
