For getting started with ethernet interfacing
Do we need a board like


Serial-to-Ethernet Module
MDL-S2E
Serial-to-Ethernet (S2E) Module ( which is a readymade with ARM C3 )

or a normal
ENC28J60 ETHERNET MODULE ?

is it really tough to interface with a 18F pic micro ?

Need for what? The answer depends on both your requirement for the ethernet interface (e.g. serving specific protocols, exposing multiple connections etc.) as well as the effort you are willing to spent for application firmware development. In the ready-made serial ethernet bridge segment, there are much more products, e.g. Lantronix XPort. If you want to design your own hardware, you should also consider PIC18F97J60 or the Wiznet chips with hardware TCP stack.
 

For making a webserver , to get values from sensors in my lab , and to remotedly control it
 

a simple technique is to use a serial to Ethernet device such as the Lantronix XPort (as suggested by FvM)


I have driven these from a PIC24 at 921,600 bps

otherwise you could use microprocessors with Ethernet stacks, e.g.
