HI all

I am trying to program the ethernet module of zilog's "ez80Acclaim!" MCU. Can anyone of you with experience in writing code for ethernet for embedded systems give me guidelines on how to proceed as I am totally new to it. I will like to know things like how to form an ethernet packet (its headers and trailers), what processing is usually done by the hardware when transmitting and receiving data or anything else that u people think important for a person to know before setting out to actually program.

thanks.

Some refrence books to read are:

"Networking & Internetworking with Microcontrollers" By Fred Eady ISBN: 0-7506-7698-1

"TCP/IP Lean: Web Servers for Embedded Systems (2nd Edition)" Jeremy Bentham ISBN: 157820108X

"Embedded Ethernet and Internet Complete" By Jan Axelson ISBN: 1931448000

I think TCP/IP Lean book is more what you are looking for.

Also take a look at Circuit Cellar Magazine back Issues. They may have a refrence design.

thanks a lot jhallows
I m already referring to these books except TCP/IP one for my project. Besides these, there is also "Ethernet Definite Guide" (only about ethernet hardware aspects) that helped me immensely when programming my MCU's MAC and PHY.
