This simple device is perfect for easy measurement of time. It can be used in e.g. car racing instead of chronometer, to which you have to connect photocells on START and FINISH lines or, if they are in the same line, you have to switch the photocell cable from one input to another. In this case, when you use chronometer, the beam can be interrupted or the photocell can send accidental signal.
Electronic switch eliminates the need to switch the cables and deactivates signal from the photocell to the chronometer while the racer passes through.
Main components of the device:
- one monostable button
- one green LED
- one red LED
- one photocell input
- two chronometer outputs
Start of loop
When the LEDs are off, sending signal from the photocell to the chronometer is disabled. So even if the photocell barrier is interrupted, the chronometer does not get that information. After pressing the button, the green LED lights up and from that moment, interruption of the photocell barrier enables countdown of the time on the chronometer. The LED turns off. Then the photocell beam interruption does not affect the work of the chronometer. When a racer approaches the finish line, press the button – the red LED will light up. When the barrier is interrupted, the chronometer stops the timer. The red LED turns off and sends the information to the chronometer.
End of loop.
