Thanks for the suggestion on the indication E.
However i'll have a piezoelectric buzzer attached in parallel with the relay's coil that will sound when the sump pump is off and the air pump is on. Also, the air bubbles themselves are a pretty good indication. Normally the main aquarium will have no bubbles in it at all.
I really appreciate all of the time and expertise you've lent to me here. I think this solution is quite elegant.
