Can you help me step by step for this problem please ?

A filament lamp rated at 300W, at 100V is to be connected in series with a capacitor across a 230V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate the value of the capacitance, the current taken by the circuit and the phase angle.

thanks
ron

Consider that voltage drops on lamp and capacitor are in quadrature.
Hipotenuse is 230V and lamp cathetus is 100V. Calculate other cathetus to get capacitor voltage drop. In this series circuit the current is common and should be equal 300W/100V=3A. Knowing capacitor voltage drop and capacitor current calculate C.
C=I/(Vcap*ω)

Hi,

thanks for your explenation. Can you suggest me some good books on those subjects ?

thanks
