Requirements

1. Payload, torque, rpm(max-min), encoder-accuracy, physical-dimensions and environment conditions, Type of Motor-and motor Accuracy, How it is Actuated(Ac/DC) is decided

2. Based on pt 1 Motor is selected.
3. Based on pt 1& 2 Encoder, Driver is selected
4. Based on pt 4 Driver, Encoder-communication is selected.
5. Based on pt 5 Driver, Driver communication is selected (CAN-EtherCat-Rs232).
6. Micro-controller supporting that driver communication is selected.

Each Points are to be briefed with example in further post

From the above points mentioned, point 1 mentions-- payload It's the maximum weight of the device which is meant to be rotated using the motor. Simply put, payload is weight of a rider if the motor is called as BIKE. Torque is the force required to turn the payload. rpm is the velocity with which the motor can run. rpm stands for rotations per minute, both the maximum and minimum rpm has to be mentioned is the list of parameters.. further topics of point 1 will be discussed.
