EEPROM data becomes 0 (zero) during power-off cycle

I have typical application where a (non - zero) value is stored in EEPROM, during power - on this value is called in uC's RAM. Now during 1 particular test the power - off cycle uC will write this value again write this to EEPROM. but now value becomes zero.
Can anyone suggests how to reproduce this on my table, & probable causes of this.
