Driver Selection for MOSFET

Hi,

I am designing a High Power DC DC converter (155V to 88V) Output Current around 40A.
Selected the MOSFET FDL100N50F produced by FAIRCHILD.
The PWM signal will be generated using a PIC microcontroller.
How would I know if a driver circuit is needed?
How will I select an appropriate Driver IC.
Can you suggest one IC compatible to this MOSFET ?

Hi,
A driver is needed for the MOSFET if the logic output (usually ~5V) from the PIC isn't enough to turn it on because of the required threshold voltage and the gate capacitance. Also if the MOSFET's source terminal in your converter isn't connected to ground it will require a much higher voltage to switch.

I used a IR2110 in my project, which should be ok for yours,

IR2110 has HI and LO side outputs you might only need one lo side but its a starting point,

OK ... Thank you Dale..

Now my peer wants it to be done in synchronous topology instead of using diode
I am worried about controlling both MOSFETs..

But then I found a driver 'ADP3419'.
With a single input PWM it creates both high side and low side signals..
I hope I am not doing a great mistake going with this driver..
Please guide ..
