Can a DPAK FET dissipate 1W if mounted on a PCB where the extra cooling copper connected to the drain pad is just an extra square centimetre?

I will say yes, but better is to check datasheet for particular DPAK (TO-252) FET ?

..As with other datasheets, there thermal data corresponds to a part mounted on a copper land of size 25mm square, and I never find that I have that amount of room available on a pcb.

Designer of PCB should count on that, or if mistake is made PCB ver 2 should have correction of that lack.

From my expirience usually second or third PCB design is right PCB. First two can be counted as beta release.

No, it cannot DPAK FET dissipate 1W if mounted on a PCB.

Then why do you ask?

Also: as always 2 oz copper is used for these graphs, which is not a standard buildup.

sorry I found the graph after I asked...3W in dpak seems immense, even if 2oz cu
