Doubt in prefix of the microcontroller ic name

hi to all,

I have seen all the controller names which has some prefix and suffix as GP/GU/MC/MU like that. I dont know what it is, could you help me why they denoting like that.

dsPIC33EPXXX(GP/MC/MU)806/810/814 and PIC24EPXXX(GP/GU)810/814

If you check in the related datasheet, the last page has got product identification system. There the information is available about the family of controllers it belongs to:

GP - general purpose
MC - Motor Control
GM7 - General Purpose plus Motor Control
MU8 - Motor Control family with USB
GU8 - General Purpose family with USB
GS - Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS)
