hello all

I Just want to know , when we have a switch we know that all the connected workstations have the same network number and they all share the same broadcast domain , so does also the workstations that share the same VLAN ID must have the same network address , or now the constrains - of the broadcast domain - became dependant on the VLAN ID only , i.e. : that mean that W.S that have the same broadcast domain "in the same VLAN" may have different network addresses ?

thanks in advance

Re: A Q. about VLANS ?

Hi,
It can be different IP in the same VLAN. See article in wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VLAN.
Also you can review IEEE 802.1Q to deepen yours knowledge in this subject

Re: A Q. about VLANS ?

You can use VLAN by port base or policy base

If you use port base you can use same Network ID for all PC with different VLAN in each port or same VLAN ID for several ports then PC's can access only if other PC in same VLAN ID even other PC's got same network ID
Then broadcast of that VLAN wont go to other ports of the switch
