DNP components designation methods

Hi

I was just wondering whether you use DNP "Do Not Populate" components in your schematics design, and how do you mark them?
I am especially talking about those RFU strapping resistors that you might want to change during prototype bringup if the board does not work.
Do you change the part number or the value field of the component to DNP or NF or NL or N.C....etc. Or you mark them differently?
I know in Altium you can select them in the variant spread sheet, but that is not visible in the schematics while you are editing it, it would only be visible in the printed (pdf) schematics.


Please also tell which country you are living in.
I worked at 2 companies in the UK and at both we called them NF (No-Fit or do not fit), but at this company here in the US they call them NL (no load).

In my experience (working in AU) I've only ever seen 'ABSENT' and 'NL'.

DNP or NF.
I use Cadstar and the variant manager in that shows the variant components in the schematic on screen as well as printed.
Where users don't have the variant manager I recommend using and attribute (or variable) that you can attach to the part to illustrate its non fitted status, also this attribute can be used during BOM creation to exclude non fitted components from the BOM.
