Discontinous mode in the three phase AC/DC converter

In the case of the three phase full wave rectifier with LC filter at its output, when the current through the the resistive load is reaching zero the output voltage is no more filtered, some books authors propose a bleeding resistor in shunt with load to avoid current reaching zero, but this solution is taking too much power (more than the load !!!), is there any other solution to this problem ?

Yes you can have a stepped gap DC choke, where there is a small part of the core with no gap giving a higher inductance at light loads, at higher loads this bit saturates under the DC bias and becomes effectively an air gap...!
