When a digital multimeter is used to measure the AC voltage, does it show the amplitude of voltage or peak-to-peak voltage ?

hi,
it shows nor amplitude, nor p-p value .It shows by calibration the effective value which is 0.707 of peak value like esp1 says.
Peak value is then greater from efecive value by sqrt(2)

hi,
Most AC meters are scaled in RMS, which is 0.707 * Vpeak.

Thanks a lot esp1 and zsolt1....
