what is the difference between the optical sensor and the ir sensor...

In IR sensor we are using a IR led and IR receiver..

In optical sensor it is called as photo diode and photo transistor..

So please tell me the difference between the ir led and the photo diode, also between ir receiver and photo transistor..

ir sensor response only on infrared light. ir light have a range of frequency.
photo diode and photo transistor works on normal visible light which is normally seen by human eye.


ir led is just a led which generates infrared light and photo diode uses in reverse biase and
basically it is a sensor . which sense normal lignt and change its reverse current accordingly.
normal light is in everyware. so if you use photo diode or photo transistor then it will response in normal light for example
tube light, energy saver and any bulb. ir light is rare and obtained by ir led . so ir reciever will work only in ir light.
