Hi

I want to know what is the difference between Java based (J2ME) mobile handsets and the SymbianOS ones?

SymbianOS is a realtime OS , but Java is a programming language
Is J2ME a realtime OS too? or it is a virtual machine or else ?

any idea is welcome

Re: difference between Java (J2ME) & SymbianOS mobile ha

As far as I know that J2ME is virtual machine that gets installed on devices
with limited resources such as PDAs, mobile phones ... etc.

Of course, the J2ME will be dependent on the mobile device it gets installed on.
In your case, there will a J2ME for installation on the Sybmian OS.

Using the java programming language, you write program that will run under the J2ME virtual machine.

Take a look at this link :

Good Luck

Re: difference between Java (J2ME) & SymbianOS mobile ha

Well, the thing is SymbianOS is an operating system for Mobiles and PDAs and so on, but J2ME is not an operating system. J2ME is a programming platform ……
It is like windows and java on your computer or Linux and java, windows and Linux are operating systems and java is a programming language used to make applications on them …… what makes java or J2ME special is that you can write the application which is independent from the operating system it will run on (as it uses virtual machine). Like making games for the mobiles phones (including SymbianOS based phones )
