What is the difference between power electronic devices(such as power diode , power MOSFET) and ordinary electronic devices (Diodes , MOSFET)

What is the difference between power electronic devices(such as power diode , power MOSFET) and ordinary electronic devices (Diodes , MOSFET)

Their functionally is basically the same. The only difference is that power devices (e.g. MOSFETs) are made to handle much larger power requirements. Power MOSFETs, for example, usually require a heat sink to dissipate all the generated heat from using so much power.

Hope that helps,
analogLow :)

ordinary devices are low current and low voltage devices.
power devices are high current and/or high vlotage devices.

ordinary devices generally can be for very high frequency.
power devices , again generally, for low to medium frequency.

the frequency classification is just for understanding though exceptions are there.

one transition point can be 1 ampere.
<1A , low
and >1A , power.

This question can be answered in number of ways. The simplest way to say all the electronics devices which deals with power are covered in Power Electronics. There are devices whic you do use in general purpose electronics like: Diode, BJT, MFETs etc. You will find these devices in electronics & power electronics both. The devices used in Power electronics may differ in term of construction & behavior from those used in electronics. There are type of devices which you will find only IN PE, ex: IGBT.

only the difference is the rating of it Current

Having to worry about heat dissipation versus not.

Power MOSFET device construction is fundamentally different from
simple small signal and digital MOSFET design. But do you care?

Power electronics is much more unforgiving of ignorance and bad
judgment, in the sense of fatal outcomes (the device, or you).

The amount of current that it can handle.
Power electronics components can handle more.
